There is a new refugee accommodation in Schliersee.

42 refugees could move in there as early as mid-February.

A group of helpers is now being formed.

Schliersee - In September 2023, the Schliersee building committee approved the conversion of the former administration building of the Warnecke and Böhm company in the Westenhofen district for refugee accommodation.

42 refugees could move in there as early as mid-February.

A group of helpers is now being formed.

New refugee accommodation in Schliersee: Move-in possible from mid-February - supporters wanted for helper group

On Monday, February 5th, Mayor Franz Schnitzenbaumer introduced the new integration officer in Schliersee, Sabine Baresel.

The “Asylum Helper Circle” event took place in the Vitalwelt Forum.

“My wish is to find volunteer supporters for the integration officer,” said Franz Schnitzenbaumer when asked.

Sabine Baresel is a certified integration consultant and integration officer with extensive experience in the areas of asylum, family law and dealing with authorities.

Anyone who would like to help will receive voluntary compensation and instruction from Sabine Baresel.

“The helpers are not left alone.

“You will receive all the support and training you need from me to be able to carry out your valuable work successfully,” she promises.

“Our goal is to create a supportive community based on intercultural competence to build a bridge between different cultures and promote harmonious coexistence and enable newcomers to successfully integrate into our society,” explains Baresel.

Help can be varied - be it in German lessons, registering for kindergarten and school, filling out forms and applications or accompanying you to appointments with doctors, schools and authorities.

This practical help is intended not only to overcome bureaucratic hurdles, but also to strengthen social interaction.

“We are looking for committed people who are open to the diversity of cultures and have the ability to deal respectfully with different backgrounds.

Your support can make a significant contribution to ensuring that asylum seekers feel welcome in Schliersee,” she says.

The basic requirement for participation in the helper group is the willingness to work together interculturally.

However, many people have unrealistic ideas about the challenges that lie ahead.

“It shouldn’t be too much of a burden or too much to handle, because then the helpers will drop out again,” Baresel knows from experience.

“Even helping for an hour is okay,” she encourages.

Her dream would be to find one-to-one sponsorships because this would allow the volunteers to get to know the people and their needs better.

With over 40 refugees, this wish is rather unrealistic for them.

“But perhaps there are individual citizens in Schliersee who would like to take on such a sponsorship.”

Sabine Baresel herself would like to be on site during fixed office hours so that she can be regularly contacted by the refugees and the neighbors.

“Each of us can make a small contribution to make living with new people from other cultures easier and to bring about a positive change in their lives.” (
