(1895–1952) was a heavy smoker.

According to a 2018 Oxford University study, King Charles' grandfather developed lung cancer.

In 1951, the Regent's left lung, including a malignant tumor, was removed during an operation.

Cancer also affects female British royals: Princess Victoria, Sarah Ferguson, Queen Mum

But the female members of the British royal family also repeatedly struggled with cancer.

In 1901, Princess Victoria – the daughter of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert – died of breast cancer at the age of 60.

Sarah Ferguson (64) also made her breast cancer diagnosis public in June 2023.

In January 2024, the Duchess of York announced her second cancer diagnosis, which was discovered to be malignant melanoma.

In a biography published in 2009, author William Shawcross reports that King Charles' grandmother had a tumor removed in 1966 after being diagnosed with colon cancer.

In 1984, after being diagnosed with breast cancer, she underwent surgery to remove a lump from her breast.

However, the diagnoses were only made public after her death in 2002.

Queen Mum was 101 years old.
