Bad Tölz – The Tölzer FOS/BOS school family is against any form of exclusion and discrimination.

For this they have now been given the title “School against Racism”.

Against exclusion and discrimination – Tölzer FOS/BOS is now officially a “school without racism”

The small event fit perfectly into the current events.

For weeks, the majority of the population across Germany has been taking to the streets to stand up for democratic values and diversity in the country - two demos against the right also took place in the district town.

Now the technical and vocational high school (FOS/BOS) is symbolically raising a colorful flag and is actively campaigning against violence, discrimination and exclusion in its own building.

For this, the state high school was officially awarded the “School without Racism” certificate on Tuesday morning.

The title “School without Racism – School with Courage” is not just lip service

But the predicate is more than just lip service.

The school family is committed to actively campaigning against any form of hatred and agitation.

This also includes sustainable projects, campaigns and events that are aimed at combating discrimination against minorities.

No matter whether it concerns skin color, origin, religion or sexual orientation.

I'm so happy that we were accepted.

Headmaster of the Tölzer FOS/BOS Andreas Stefan

“I’m so happy that we’ve been accepted,” shouted headmaster Andreas Stefan to the packed auditorium.

Especially since only a few FOS/BOS schools are included in the nationwide “Schools without Racism” network, with around 4,000 educational institutions.

His thanks also went to the group of students who pushed the project forward together with teacher Albulena Imeri.

Tölzer FOS/BOS has been campaigning for inclusion and against exclusion for years

“Everyone involved in school life was 100 percent behind it,” praised Stefan.

Inclusion and “not excluding that” have been practiced at the school for years.

But it is not only important there to actively work against racism “and to open your mouth”, but also in society, especially today.

“We want to be a role model for younger people and everyone in the world,” emphasized Imeri afterwards.

“Reducing prejudice and taking a stand against the right” was more explosive and important than she had ever experienced before.

The ideological catchphrase “remigration” (bad word of the year 2023) from right-wing extremist parties, which is currently floating around, is particularly troubling for the English and Italian teacher.

District Administrator Niedermaier, Mayor Mehner and project sponsor Holzer praise democracy: It is important for “prosperity, freedom and progress”

As an “affected person,” it leaves you with an uneasy feeling: “When people from your closest circle of acquaintances are already talking about whether it might be smart to move back to your home country.” All of this is happening right now, says Imeri: “We’re thinking about it. “

District Administrator Josef Niedermaier has also felt the tornness in the country in local politics for several years and, in view of the social shift to the right, he asks himself the question: “How can something like this, which was less than 100 years ago, be placed in people’s minds again?” This makes demographics all the more important, even if the processes are sometimes laborious, it is worth fighting for.

They mean a “great freedom to maintain prosperity, freedom and progress”.

The key words for this are “openness and listening to each other and staying away from extremes, whether right or left,” emphasized Mayor Ingo Mehner.

A former FOS/BOS student was recruited as a project sponsor.

Ice hockey player Korbinian Holzer started his professional career at EC Tölz.

In the spirit of democracy, he said: “Different opinions are good, listening to those of others is better.”
