Negative signals for the global tablet sector.
The latest report from the analysis company IDC shows a 20% decline at the end of 2023 compared to the previous year.
In particular, in the last quarter the segment lost 17.4%.
This is the biggest drop in a quarter since 2016.
In concrete terms, 40 million fewer devices were shipped during the past twelve months.
A decline that is reflected in the difficulties of almost all the main brands.
Over the year, Apple recorded a decline of almost 20%, while still maintaining first position in the ranking, with a market share of 27.8%.
Amazon had the biggest drop, by as much as 65%, placing it in fifth position.
Completing the grid are Samsung, which limits the damage with a loss of 14%, still in second place, before Lenovo (-19%) and Huawei (-4%).
Analyzing the data for the last quarter of 2023, among the negative signs Huawei, Lenovo and Xiaomi bring home positive results.
The former gained 21.2% in the October-December period compared to the same in 2022, while Lenovo and Xiaomi achieved +12.9% and +35%.
“2024 is expected to show some recovery opportunities, provided the year is more economically robust. However, overall challenges remain in the tablet market, not least because technological advances around artificial intelligence will mainly focus on PCs and smartphones for the next two years," says Anuroopa Nataraj, senior research analyst at IDC's Mobility and Consumer Device Trackers division.
