Every tax office works at different speeds.

A ranking now shows the federal states and cities with the fastest tax offices in 2023. NRW is the winner.

Hamm - In Germany there are more than 600 tax offices in the 16 federal states.

According to

Lohnsteuer-kompakt.de,

over 500 of them process income tax returns.

But not all tax offices work at the same speed.

Last year, taxpayers had to wait longer for their refund in some federal states than in others.

The online portal has created an overview of the processing time by the German tax offices in 2023.

The processing times were collected anonymously based on around 300,000 income tax returns prepared via

Lohnsteuer-kompakt.de

in the last twelve months.

The fastest tax office in Germany is in North Rhine-Westphalia - on average, North Rhine-Westphalia is in third place

In 2023, Brandenburg took first place among the slowest tax offices in Germany - closely followed by Bremen.

The reason for the long waiting time is “the high workload in the tax offices because of the property tax declaration,” explains Felix Bodeewes, managing director of

Lohnsteuer-kompakt.de

.

“Despite the extension of the deadline, many property taxpayers have not submitted their property tax returns, but the high amount of work is still noticeable.”

A lot will change for retirees in 2024.

Anyone retiring will have to pay more taxes.

However, politicians are planning to ease the burden.

Anyone planning to visit a restaurant in January must expect higher costs.

Because: From January 1st, the regular VAT rate of 19 percent will apply again in the catering industry instead of the temporary 7 percent.
