End of the Yvelin adventure for Prefect Brot.

The Council of Ministers has just announced this Wednesday the departure of Jean-Jacques Brot.

The 68-year-old senior civil servant will leave his position on March 2 and will be replaced by Frédéric Rose, current security advisor to President Emmanuel Macron.

This 50-year-old magistrate, former advisor to Minister Rachida Dati when she was in charge of Justice and former member of the Interministerial Committee for the Prevention of Delinquency and Radicalization, will leave the Élysée to return to Versailles on March 4.

If the departure of Jean-Jacques Brot may come as a surprise, just a few months before the Olympic Games which will partly take place in Yvelines, it above all marks the end of an adventure that began in April 2018. And it was undoubtedly atypical.

The former advisor to Jacques Chirac quickly distinguished himself by his unusual style in a profession marked by a sometimes pathological reserve.

As wooden language is a clearly foreign concept to him, he initially surprised the elected officials with his expression, which was both lyrical and direct.

Exceptional longevity

But behind the colorful ties and colored socks, this fine scholar, lover of Chateaubriand and Charles Péguy, was able to unite his teams around his experience, with some of his close friends devoting him, ever since, unwavering loyalty.

Modest, sensitive, sometimes capable of outbursts, the sixty-year-old cultivated both high-ranking friendships and other, more discreet ones, with modest personalities.

Former prefect in charge of refugees, this free spirit, capable of displaying a portrait of the actor Jean-Pascal Zadi in his office, had maintained strong links with Kanak leaders of New Caledonia, where he had served for a year before resigning with fracas, or the elected officials of Mayotte, of which he was prefect from 2002 to 2004. He also knew how to maintain his enmities with a few elected officials who risk waiting in vain for their invitation to his farewell party...

Prefect for 70 months at Versailles, Jean-Jacques Brot ultimately did not beat the longevity record of Jean-Pierre Delpont who officiated from March 1986 to October 1992. Seventy months during which he was confronted with barbarism: he notably had to manage the assassination of Samuel Paty in October 2020 or that of an agent from the Rambouillet police station in April 2021.
