The PSOE attorney of Castilla y León arrested on Monday night for gender violence, Ángel Hernández, resigned this Wednesday from all his positions.
The parliamentarian, also general secretary of the socialist group in the Cortes, has renounced his record in Parliament, his position as a member of the party's autonomous executive commission and has withdrawn as a member.
Hernández has described as “very complicated days” those that have passed since his arrest on Monday night in Soria, after his partner alerted the National Police that he was knocking on the door of her home and was making threats.
Hernández, according to the Government subdelegation, had to be hospitalized due to his state of “nervousness” before being taken to the Soria cells.
The judge ordered his release the day after his arrest with charges.
The Castilian-Leon socialist group has released a statement signed by its former colleague where he announces his decision.
“I have always tried to act exemplarily in my public and private life, assuming responsibility for the positions I have held and the institutions I have represented,” said the politician from Soria, who has claimed the “project developed by the PSOE.” for and for this land” and has attributed his resignation to not harming his training.
Hernández has announced the “irrevocable resignation of all public and organic positions” that he held until this accusation of gender violence against his partner, a police officer in charge precisely of protecting women victims of sexist violence in Soria. .
“I renounce my role as attorney in the Cortes of Castilla y León and, with it, the General Secretariat of the Socialist Parliamentary Group therein.
“I also renounce my membership in the Autonomous Executive Commission of the PSOE of Castilla y León,” he explained in his message, where he thanked “the help and effort” of his colleagues.
In the same text, Hernández announces his withdrawal as a member of the PSOE and asks for “respect” for the development of the judicial case, which he has placed in the “strictly private sphere.”
The resignation comes the day after being released after being determined by the head of the Investigative Court 3 of Soria, competent in violence against women.
Hernández is charged with alleged crimes of threats, harassment, coercion and mistreatment in the area of violence against women, in addition to attacks or resistance to law enforcement agents.
In addition, the court prohibits Hernández from approaching less than 300 meters from her partner and communicating with her by any means.
The leader of the PSOE in Castilla y León, Luis Tudanca, stated this Tuesday that he was “convinced that Ángel will make all his positions available and will resign from all of them,” urging the “exemplarity” of his colleague.
Ángel Hernández's arrest became known hours before a plenary session in the regional Parliament where he himself had planned to speak.
Tudanca appeared on the stand to assess the forcefulness shown by his party in this case and attacked the PP and Vox, reminding them of charges with sexist violence in their history but that despite this they remain in positions of political relevance.
