A man was rescued by a helicopter in Los Angeles as torrential rains hit California.
The man jumped into a city canal to catch his dog, which had fallen into the water.
Both the animal and its owner were able to be rescued.
Since Sunday, California has been facing heavy rainfall that has caused dangerous flooding and landslides, killing at least three people.
Los Angeles, San Diego and Santa Barbara are among 58 counties that have been placed under a state of emergency.
Authorities also issued evacuation orders for the Hollywood Hills and Santa Monica.
Half a million homes were left without electricity.

California is plagued, like last year at the same time, by the phenomenon of “Pineapple Express”, a vast corridor of rain which transports water vapor from the tropics from Hawaii.
“The storm is expected to end on Thursday or Friday,” the weather service announced.
Scientists have been warning for years that global warming is increasing the frequency of these types of extreme events.
