The world still seemed to be in order: the last Würmtal carnival parade to date took place in February 2020, and thousands of fools filled Planegger Bahnhofstrasse.

After four years it will happen again on Sunday.

Würmtal – The Würmtal carnival procession is almost ready to go.

35 groups want to go through Krailling and Planegg on Sunday.

Until then, everyone involved still has a lot to do.

Maria Eich is a good address when it comes to making sure everything runs smoothly.

The Oktoberfest hosts come there every year to donate a candle.

The organizer of the carnival procession, Matthias Niedermair, also wants to knock on the Fathers' door this week.

His wish: that the weather will be right next Sunday, February 11th - and above all, that everything will go well.

Niedermair looked with concern last weekend at Kehl in Baden-Württemberg, where a carnival float burst into flames.

Numerous regulations are also intended to contribute to the safety of the event in Würmtal, which Niedermair secretly curses.

He thinks organizing the carnival procession “is no longer fun.

It’s getting worse and worse.”

He has been the organizer of the Gaudiwurm since 1989.

On behalf of the communities of Krailling and Planegg, he traditionally brings joy to carnival fans in the Würmtal every two years.

Thanks to the pandemic and Niedermair's knee surgery, the event last took place in 2020.

Although the organizer has thought about quitting several times because of the huge effort involved, he continues.

He says he loves the carnival procession.

And so on Sunday thousands will once again line the streets of Krailling and Planegg to watch as 35 groups pass by on motorbikes and on foot.

“We are around 500 people,” says Niedermair proudly.

He gathered them all together.

“Many have been there for decades.”

But not everything will be the same this year.

The “Club of the 99 Foolish Würmtalers”, which Niedermair persuaded to join in 2020, is missing for the first time.

The police will not be as present this year as in the past.

She used to always drive in the front, but this time only police officers mingle with the spectators.

The table bearers will be the forerunners of the carnival procession and thus set the speed.

As usual, Niedermair wants to ride up and down on his scooter throughout the event and keep order.

He thinks the boys like to glow for a while.

“I’ll vaccinate them.” He’ll immediately remove drunk people from the vehicles.

He makes it clear: Every driver is responsible for ensuring that everything on his vehicle runs according to regulations.

What makes the organizer particularly happy is that almost all fire departments in the Würmtal are taking part.

Only Gauting is missing.

In Gräfelfing, for example, around 25 members of the fire department have been working on a large steam locomotive since Saturday.

This should be put on a truck on Friday.

“We have a tough week ahead of us,” says spokesman Thomas Hickel.

“We have the claim to build one of the most beautiful cars,” he explained in 2020. “We have that claim every time,” he now confirms.

The TÜV will come on Saturday to inspect the vehicle.

Because it shouldn't just be beautiful, it should also be safe.

Niedermair thinks so too.

On Friday and Saturday he and a TÜV representative will inspect all participating vehicles that transport people.

Only then is the Gaudiwurm allowed to meander through the Würmtal.

Everyone involved will then meet on Sunday from 12 p.m. to line up on Mitterweg in Krailling.

At 2 p.m. the train sets off and goes along Margaretenstrasse, Luitpoldstrasse, Poststrasse and Bahnhofstrasse towards Bräustüberl in Planegg.

At the island of Bräuhausstrasse the train turns back towards the train station and then disperses.

During the train, the affected streets will be closed to traffic.

Bus route 967 will only operate to a limited extent.
