Several witnesses told the newspaper that a group of men stopped him on the road, took him out of his car to shoot him, and then fled the scene in a van.
The record label Street Mob Records, to which the singer belonged, confirmed the death through a statement on social networks.
“We sympathize with his family during this time of pain.
We kindly request understanding and respect from the media.”
Cárdenas, a native of Tijuana, had become known on social networks for singing and playing songs in the middle of the cars in line waiting to cross the United States border through the San Ysidro checkpoint, reported the Punto Norte site.
On his Spotify account, 'Chuy Montana' has just over 816,000 monthly views and his most listened to song is Polvos de Chanel, in which the group Fuerza Regida participates, whose vocalist Jesús Ortiz Paz was released by the Attorney General's Office of the Republic (FGR) a day earlier, after being arrested for allegedly introducing marijuana into the United States.
Fuerza Regida, a group originally from San Bernardino, California, and one of the greatest exponents of the subgenre of war bullfights, had received a death threat in October 2023
with a narcomanta placed in Tijuana.
This threat caused the group to cancel their concert at the town's Estadio Caliente, just weeks after the famous singer Peso Pluma did the same after receiving another death warning, also with a narcomanta.
