The Saxon AfD sees itself wrongly classified as right-wing extremist.
Nevertheless, connections to the right-wing extremist scene are on record.
The Ministry of the Interior has now provided information.
Dresden - Several members of the AfD in Saxony are known to the Office for the Protection of the Constitution as Reich citizens.
In addition, party members and the AfD Central Saxony district association made trivializing statements about Reich citizen Peter Fitzek, the Interior Ministry said in a response published on Thursday to a small question from state parliament member Kerstin Köditz (Left).
The ministry's response also contains information about AfD members' connections to the right-wing extremist scene.
“Several Saxon AfD members took part in the opening ceremony of the 'Identitarian House Project Center Chemnitz' in Chemnitz.
In 2023, Saxon AfD members and AfD officials repeatedly took part in events organized by the 'Free Saxony' party at the regional level.
The AfD in Saxony cooperated several times with the right-wing extremist 'Compact-Magazin' and its editor-in-chief Jürgen Elsässer,” it said.
The Identitarian Movement (IB) and the “Free Saxons” are classified as right-wing extremist by the Office for the Protection of the Constitution.
“In the Erzgebirgskreis, the AfD district council faction there and the chairman of the district council faction of “Die Heimat” (formerly the National Democratic Party of Germany) entered into formal cooperation by submitting a joint application to prevent a planned refugee home to the district council,” the Interior Ministry said known.
The State Office for the Protection of the Constitution (LfV) in Saxony classified the Saxon AfD state association as a “secure right-wing extremist effort” in December 2023.
The AfD wants to defend itself legally.

Officially, both the “Free Saxons” as well as the Identitarian Movement and Reichsbürger are on the AfD’s incompatibility list for membership.
Anyone who is a member of these groups cannot join the AfD.
