By stating his refusal to join the government for lack
of “deep agreement on the policy to follow”
, the mayor of Pau caused the presidential majority to waver on Wednesday.
After his resounding exit, François Bayrou tried to calm things down this Thursday on Franceinfo.
“Yes, we are full members of the majority that wants to rebuild the country
,” said the head of MoDem.
With its 51 deputies, the centrist party is a pillar of the relative majority.
“The decision I took obviously means that the role I have in politics, I will not play inside the government
,” he noted.

The mayor of Pau also left the door open to a candidacy in 2027. Questioned on this subject, François Bayrou revealed his ambitions:
“I have never renounced any of the duties that are mine, any of the responsibilities which are mine.”
