After criticism of invitations for AfD politicians to the opening of the Berlinale, the festival leadership disinvited the party representatives again.
Especially in view of the revelations of anti-democratic positions in recent weeks, it is important to take an unambiguous stand for an open democracy, the Berlinale leadership announced on Thursday.
Berlin - “Today we have therefore disinvited all previously invited AfD politicians in writing and informed them that they are not welcome at the Berlinale,” said the management duo Mariette Rissenbeek and Carlo Chatrian, according to a statement.
The AfD and many of its members have views that deeply contradict the basic values of democracy.
At a time when right-wing extremists are entering parliament, the Berlinale now wants to take a clear position.
The invitations caused a lot of criticism.
Several people had called for invitations to the AfD to be withdrawn.
