Companies such as Gsma, the association that represents the interests of mobile network operators throughout the world, Innit, Lenovo group, but also Mastercard, Microsoft, Salesforce and Telefonica, are among the giants of global technology that have signed a commitment to create a more ethical artificial intelligence.
These companies will commit to applying the values and principles contained in the UNESCO Recommendation on the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence, the world's first regulatory framework in this field, at every stage of the design and implementation of their AI systems.
The signing took place during the second UNESCO Global Forum on AI which was held in Slovenia.
"The alliance between public and private is essential to develop AI at the service of the common good" commented the Director General of UNESCO, Audrey Azoulay, explaining that "the signatories undertake to fully assume their role in the protection of human rights , when designing, developing, buying, selling and using AI. This is the first time companies have engaged with the United Nations in this area."
The agreement provides for the adoption of verification procedures to ensure compliance with safety standards, the identification of the harmful effects of AI and the adoption of measures to limit and correct them.
It also highlights the importance of pre-market testing, but also calls for the development of post-implementation risk assessment and mitigation practices, given the rapid evolution of AI systems already on the market.
