Weiberfastnacht is just around the corner and on February 8th there will be a state of emergency throughout Cologne.
24RHEIN reports live how the carnival is going in Cologne.
The peak phase of the Cologne Carnival 2024 is between Women's Carnival and Ash Wednesday. The first barriers are already in place one day before the start of the street carnival.
Hundreds of thousands of Jecken are expected in Cologne on Weiberfastnacht alone.
A party focal point for many is Zülpicher Straße.
But all over Cologne there is celebration in the bars, pubs and on the streets.

Sleep again, then it's women's carnival.
That's probably what's going through some geeks' minds on Wednesday evening.
But while carnival fans are already mentally preparing for exuberant celebrations at the start of the street carnival, meticulous preparations are still underway in the background.
Very important in Cologne: barriers at the biggest celebration hotspots.
The major closures in Cologne will be set up on Thursday morning at 6 a.m.
But the first road closures have already been prepared in the green belt and in the old town.
The first barriers were already in place at the Aachener Weiher on Wednesday morning.
There will again be particularly noticeable closures in and around the Zülpicher district.
Several streets will be closed there, for example Hohenstaufenring between Lindenstrasse and Barbarossaplatz, Zülpicher Platz or Zülpicher Strasse between Universitätsstrasse and Roonstrasse (both from 6 a.m.).
Barriers were set up at the Aachener Weiher on Wednesday.

Carnival in Cologne 2024: Big street carnival opening on the Alter Markt
The Alter Markt shines again in green and red on Weiberfastnacht.
Because then the carnival society “Altstädter Köln” celebrates the traditional opening of the street carnival in the Cologne carnival. “Experience live the big spectacle in the heart of Cologne, the opening of the street carnival on the Alter Markt with the mayor and the Cologne triumvirate,” it says Carnival society.
