Flooding at Christmas and at the beginning of the year in parts of Thuringia - now some river levels are rising again.
Prime Minister Ramelow is in favor of mandatory insurance in the event of damage.
Erfurt - The persistent rainfall continues to pose a risk of flooding in some regions of Thuringia.
According to the flood news center, the river areas of the Werra in the Thuringian Forest, the Unstrut in the Harz foothills and the Saale in eastern Thuringia are particularly affected.
On Thursday, some water levels on the Saale in the Rudolstadt and Saalfeld region and on the Nahe in Hinternah in the Hildburghausen district were still above the reporting start date.
According to forecasts, water levels on the Werra near Meiningen and Gerstungen and on the Unstrut near Nägelstedt and Ammern could continue to rise.
According to the German Weather Service's forecasts, long-lasting rain is expected throughout Thuringia until Friday.
This could mean that in the areas of Werra, Unstrut, Ilm and Saale the flood reporting start date is expected to be exceeded at a number of water levels, according to a report from the flood control center.
According to the current forecast, reporting levels could also be reached in the Werra area and the upper Unstrut.
Thuringia's Prime Minister Bodo Ramelow (Left) reiterated his call for mandatory natural hazard insurance in view of the renewed risk of flooding this year.
He is concerned about the flood situation in the Werra and Unstrut.
“We know that not all of the damage caused by the Christmas flood has yet been repaired,” said the head of government.
In his opinion, the introduction of nationwide compulsory insurance against natural hazards would be the right way to relieve people's worries.
Ramelow: “It is high time for the federal government to finally act and for the Federal Minister of Justice to give up his blockade stance.” dpa
