Highlights: Educators are not afraid of fire. But too much heroism is not right either, warned Fraunberg’s fire brigade commander Thomas Daschinger. It's best to just have the courage to use a fire extinguisher to fight the fire when the fire is still about the size of a campfire, he said. The extinguisher is used in a crouched position for self-protection and is applied to the area at the source of the fire. After each successful attempt to extinguish the fire, there was applause from colleagues.

“It is important not to be afraid of fire.

But too much heroism is not right either,” warned Fraunberg’s fire brigade commander Thomas Daschinger.

It's best to just have the courage to use a fire extinguisher to fight the fire when the fire is still about the size of a campfire.

Instructive training on extinguishing and correct behavior when a fire breaks out in order to be optimally prepared in the event of an emergency was recently held at the Fraunberger Equipment House after work for 19 educators and childcare workers from the Fraunberger St. Florian Children's Home.

Fraunberg – Inside, the commander explained to the curious ladies how to properly handle fire extinguishers using a display board.

Fires are divided into different fire classes (A, B, C, etc.).

The children's house is equipped with foam extinguishers for fire classes A and B (wood, paper, straw, coal, thermosets, elastomers).

“Such a coincidence, they were all checked this morning,” said children’s home manager Anita Steinbichler.

“There is still the CO2 extinguisher that takes away the oxygen from the fire, but you don’t have that,” Daschinger said to the educators.

“A fire extinguisher must always be sealed, a sign that it is full.” The locking pin must be removed before use.

The extinguisher is used in a crouched position for self-protection and is applied to the area at the source of the fire.

“Be careful, because after just one minute the fire extinguisher is empty,” warned the commander.

“If the fire has not gone out, leave the house quickly and get yourself, your children and colleagues to safety.

Important: If there is a fire in the children’s home, call the fire department immediately,” emphasized Daschinger.

The deputy children's home director Veronika Wegmann wanted to know how she could safely put out the campfire at the annual summer festival.

“With a lot of water, the embers should then be observed for some time,” said Daschinger.

During the subsequent outdoor practical test, each participant was allowed to try using a fire extinguisher and fire blanket to extinguish or suffocate the two sources of fire prepared by deputy commander Andreas Neumaier and group leader Georg Neumaier - one of wood and one of a petrol-diesel mixture.

After each successful attempt to extinguish the fire, there was applause from colleagues.

At the end of the educational exercise, leader Steinbichler thanked the Fraunberg commander with a present.
