The special prosecutor responsible for investigating accusations of mismanagement of documents classified as confidential by US President Joe Biden has completed his investigation, the US Minister of Justice declared to Congress on Wednesday February 7, without specifying the conclusion.
This announcement comes the day after an article published in the Washington Post according to which the investigation report criticizes the management of these documents by Joe Biden and his collaborators, but does not recommend prosecution.
In a letter addressed to members of Congress and consulted by AFP on Wednesday, Justice Minister Merrick Garland indicated that special prosecutor Robert Hur had given him his report on Monday.
“I am committed to making public as much of the special prosecutor's report as possible
,” Merrick Garland said, adding that the White House was still reviewing the report.
Robert Hur was appointed by the minister last year after classified documents dating from Joe Biden's time as vice president were found in 2022 at his residence in Wilmington, Delaware, as well as in a former desk.
20 documents for Biden, 300 for Trump
A great favorite of the right, former President Donald Trump, Joe Biden's likely opponent in the November presidential election, is the target of criminal proceedings for negligent management of confidential documents.
Donald Trump, 77, has pleaded not guilty.
He was indicted federally by another special prosecutor, Jack Smith, and is accused of endangering national security by keeping nuclear documents, among other things, after leaving the White House.
As for Joe Biden, the White House pleaded
“error”
and spoke of documents taken
“inadvertently”
.
According to the
Washington Post
, there are notable differences between the two surveys.
According to the daily, the number of documents involved in the Biden case is less than 20 and around 300 in the case of Donald Trump.
