The Eurovision Song Contest will enter a new round in May: the act for Germany has not yet been determined.

For one candidate, the dream has already shattered.

Hamburg – The road to the ESC is long and difficult.

On February 16, 2024, a national preliminary decision moderated by Barbara Schöneberger (49) will decide who will represent Germany in the music contest.

Marie Reim (23) and Max Mutzke (42) are hot candidates for victory - after all, they already have impressive careers in the music business.

But young artists who are still unknown are also taking chances.

But one of them has to fit now.

Shortly before the final: ESC candidate has to give up due to illness

Those responsible have developed a new concept for this year's ESC preliminary round.

In addition to a large number of well-known artists, a talent show was held to find suitable candidates to take part in the mega event in Malmö, Sweden.

Conchita Wurst (35) and Rea Garvey (50) have accompanied and coached young singers - now only the grand finale on February 8, 2024 remains.

Four candidates have qualified for the live show, the winner of which will compete in the official preliminary round in mid-February.

But finalist Bibiane is out.

The musician is ill and cannot perform on stage on Thursday - so the event will not be rescheduled.

“The candidates worked intensively on the songs and performances in their teams.

It's a shame that Bibiane can't be there and therefore can't be elected.

We all wish her a speedy recovery from the bottom of our hearts!” says

In the preliminary decision on February 16th, a candidate may have a decisive bonus.

Pop star Marie Reim can get tips from her mother Michelle (51), who herself was able to compete for Germany in 2001 with “Who Love Lives” at what was then still the Grand Prix.

Michelle gave her daughter Marie Reim a special dress for the ESC preliminary round.
