Ethiopian MPs on Thursday approved the appointment as deputy prime minister of the head of the Ethiopian intelligence services, Temesgen Tiruneh, replacing Demeke Mekonnen who had held the position since 2012.
The deputies also approved the appointment of the former Ethiopian ambassador to the United Nations, Taye Atske Selassie, current diplomatic advisor to Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, to the post of Minister of Foreign Affairs, a portfolio that Demeke Mekonnen has also held since 2020.
