The tourist information center at Lindenplatz in Bad Wiessee will soon be history: from March, the contact point for guests will be located in the municipality's town hall.

Preparations for the move are in full swing here and there.

Bad Wiessee

- In 2014, the Tourist Information (TI) in Bad Wiessee moved into its central location in the savings bank building on Lindenplatz.

Now – ten years later – the TI has to give up this premium location, the rental agreement has expired and the rooms away from the reception area are no longer needed to this extent.

“A change makes sense,” says Stefan Rachel, head of Wiesseer TI.

As with any move, you leave your usual premises “with a certain melancholy”.

On the other hand, his team is looking forward to the new, stylish rooms in the town hall.

New rooms in the town hall

The TI team in Bad Wiessee consists of five people, two employees work full-time and the rest part-time.

Rooms on the ground floor of the town hall are currently being converted for the team.

The tourist information office is being built where the residents' registration office was previously located, and an office has been set up next to it.

Mayor Robert Kühn (SPD) estimates that 40 to 60 square meters will be available to TI employees in the future.

A significant reduction in size.

Additional windows bring in light

According to Kühn, two windows will be installed on the east side facing the street so that the new guest facility is visible from the outside.

“They’ve been inside before,” he reports.

This should make the TI appear open and friendly.

For the interior design, as much furniture as possible will be transferred and adapted from the old tourist information office to the new one.

Even the centerpiece, the counter, is allowed to move, as Rachel reports.

It will be dismantled these days.

“This means we do justice to the issue of sustainability,” says Rachel happily.

The town hall is also currently working hard to convert the former residents' registration office into a representative tourist information center.

Among other things, a three-ton safe had to be removed and removed.

The mayor suspects that passports and similar documents were probably stored there in the past.

“A safe this big is no longer brought in today,” says Kühn.

The safe was scrapped.

Offices modernized

As the tourist information office moves in, some offices in the town hall have to be moved.

According to Kühn, the residents' registration office will be located where the employees of the public order office used to sit, the public order office in turn will move into the property area and so on.

“We took advantage of this opportunity to put all of the offices in good condition,” reports the mayor.

For example, some of the outdated furniture was replaced.

There was enough space to accommodate the TI thanks to the extension, which was completed in autumn 2020.

“In the future, all rooms will be occupied,” Kühn makes clear.

The decision for the TI to move under the roof of the town hall was not without controversy in the local council and among the landlords.

But the situation has now calmed down, says Kühn.

“When you talk to the landlords, that’s not the number one issue.” The mayor can see some positive things in the move.

This has created a flexible solution for the future.

In addition, the colleagues from the town hall and the TI are geographically closer - “I definitely see synergies there.”

Moving in in March

According to Rachel, the move will take place in the second half of February.

The manager assures that the tourist information office is trying to be open on as many days as possible during this time.

But there will certainly also be phases in which the local contact person is not available.

Rachel makes it clear that inquiries received by phone or email are processed as normal.

From the beginning of March, the tourist information center will be located in the town hall.
