In the center of Forstern, the church has closed off the area it owns - for weather reasons.
Forstern - For some time now, part of the gravel area in the center of Forstern has been cordoned off with construction fences - namely the area that belongs to the church.
“This place is closed until further notice due to weather conditions,” says signs attached to it.
“Why?” Franz-Josef Obermaier (AWG) wanted to know in the local council on Tuesday evening.
Mayor Rainer Streu (AWG) was able to clarify this promptly.
“If a parking lot is public and someone slips there and breaks their leg, then the person who provided the space is responsible,” he explained.
The community was able to comply with the clearing and gritting requirements on their side of the square: “We threw trickles and salted them.
But the church administration has announced that it does not have the manpower or the necessary materials for this,” the mayor added.
It was initially offered that the building yard would take over the church area.
But that failed due to a lack of trickle.
So the church administration decided to close the area during the winter.
“But I assume that it will open again afterwards,” said Streu.
In this context, he reported that the northern of the two bays on the main road created by the planting campaign in November 2022 should now also be adjusted.
While the area in the south has long served as a bus stop with bike racks, the second bay is consistently parked up - but that's not what it's there for.
“You have to be annoyed,” said Obermaier.
The area is prepared by the horticultural association with a lot of their own effort, “and then people put themselves in there.”
This problem exists everywhere, including in settlements, said Streu.
Parking is often done on community property – “and we provide it free of charge,” he said.
“And why?” asked Erwin Nominacher, who caused a lot of laughter in the committee with this interjection.
The SPD council had already suggested collecting parking fees several times.
However, there are currently no plans in this direction.
