This start is impressive: in the presence of State Parliament President Ilse Aigner, the new youth parliament of the city of Miesbach completed its constituent meeting.

The eight youth representatives distributed the positions to be filled in a secret ballot.

Miesbach - The new youth parliament of the city of Miesbach was not lacking in attention at the constituent meeting that took place on Tuesday evening in the venerable meeting room of the town hall.

A team from Bavarian Television also stopped by.

The highest honor, however, was the presence of constituency representative Ilse Aigner (CSU), who, as President of the State Parliament, was particularly keen to be able to attend this event - which she had learned about from our newspaper.

She made it clear in her opening speech why.

“It's about democracy and democratic principles,” explained Aigner, who is particularly concerned about this issue as President of the State Parliament - not least in view of the AfD's appearances in the Bavarian State Parliament.

For this reason, she is very grateful to the Miesbach city council for setting up the youth parliament in the district town - the only one in the district, "and there aren't too many in Bavaria."

Three years of development

Mayor Gerhard Braunmiller (CSU) made it clear that it was a long road – a good three years – to “this important meeting”.

As early as 2014, there was the first proposal in the city council for a – at the time so-called – children’s commission, but it did not find a majority.

The youth parliament, which Andreas Kempf suggested at the 2020 youth citizens' meeting, had better luck.

In February 2021, the city council commissioned youth officer Christian Mittermaier (CSU) and family officer Malin Friese (Greens) to design a suitable concept (we reported).

With Lucia Hirsch (20, Haindlkeller), Xaver Bernöcker (16, youth fire department), Frederik Hilbich (23), Noah Hormaier (16), Leopold Mayr-Mautner (18) as well as Anton (20, Haindlkeller), Linus (18) and Paul Weidelener (13) have now found eight volunteers who want to get involved in the new youth parliament and support Miesbach's youth.

They were already appointed at the most recent city council meeting.

At the constituent meeting they briefly introduced themselves and filled their positions in a secret ballot.

Equipped with extensive rights

City hall employee Sandra Bauer explains why it took so long to found the youth parliament with the rights that the youth parliament is given.

There are own rules of procedure, invitations to public city council meetings with the right to speak and make proposals, and a budget of 5,000 euros per year.

And the latter is not an easy task, as Aigner emphasized: “Having your own budget is good.

Experience shows that when it comes to money, it is difficult to come to an agreement.”

For two years, the Youth Parliament in this composition has been part of this “participation format,” as Braunmiller called it.

This is “a good space to be introduced to local decision-making processes”.

Aigner, for her part, emphasized: “Democracy lives from those who take part.”

This is the new youth parliament:

Chairman Leopold Mayr-Mautner, deputy Paul Weidelener;

Secretary Linus Weidelener, deputy Xaver Bernöcker;

Treasurer Anton Weidelener, deputy Noah Hormaier;

Social media officer Lucia Hirsch, deputy Frederik Hilbich.
