Highlights: One year after the groundbreaking ceremony: Work on the U6 extension to Martinsried is fully on schedule. Of the approximately 800 bored piles, over 70 percent have already been set. 100,000 cubic meters of concrete have been installed, as well as 11,000 tons of steel and four kilometers of grouted anchors. In a few weeks the Am Klopferspitz road will be relocated to the west. The tunnel will continue under the road, and this area will probably only be passable in one lane until August.

Martinsried - A year ago there was a large crowd on the meadow between Martinsried, the Max Planck Institute and the IZB - in addition to many local celebrities such as District Administrator Christoph Göbel and Planegg's Mayor Hermann Nafziger, there was also Prime Minister Markus Söder and ministers Christian Bernreiter and Markus Blume came to the opening ceremony for the subway extension to the Martinsried research campus.

Now the community of Planegg informed a much smaller group about the construction work.

Mayor Hermann Nafziger brought his spade from a year ago to the site visit.

“I haven’t cleaned it, the soil is still from February 6, 2023,” says Nafziger.

He is not the only one who is pleased about the construction progress for the U6 extension from the Großhadern Clinic to Martinsried to the research facilities around the Ludwig Maximilians University, the Max Planck Institute and the buildings of the Innovation and Start-up Center IZB.

At his usual pace, Dr.

Dimitri Steinke, managing director of the project management company PMG, explained the status of the work.

“We are on schedule and within budget,” emphasizes Steinke.

The latter is still at 212 million euros (+5.2 million for the parking deck).

So far there have been no surprises that have delayed construction progress, and the many individual approval steps that have to be submitted to the authorities in blocks or sections are also within the time frame.

Of the approximately 800 bored piles, over 70 percent have already been set.

And Stefan Schaudig, the manager at the Planegger town hall, immediately provided some impressive figures: To date, around 100,000 cubic meters of concrete have been installed, as well as 11,000 tons of steel and four kilometers of grouted anchors.

In addition, 340,000 cubic cubic meters of excavated earth were moved in one year.

“These pictures speak for themselves,” adds Steinke.

Everything should be finished by 2027

“It’s unbelievable what happened here,” says the Planegger town hall boss, who is equally impressed.

“There’s really something going on here.”

Nafziger is certain that the subway extension to Martinsried will go into operation as planned in 2027.

As far as the proximity to science and research is concerned, everyone assures that the initial difficulties have now been resolved.

If, for example, earth grouting takes place on the construction site that causes vibrations, this would be announced in advance today.

In a few weeks the Am Klopferspitz road will be relocated to the west.

The reason: The tunnel will continue under the road, and this area will probably only be passable in one lane until August.

A so-called sample block has also been set up on the west side of the future platform.

According to Robert Bauer from the Leonhard Weiss construction company, it has the same dimensions as the future subway tubes.

“Here we try out everything possible to see how materials behave and how the concrete might change.

In two years this block will then be torn down and replaced by an entrance with lettering.

By the way: What's new for Bauer is the fact that "here we have an open construction method and don't have to drill a subway between the rows of houses, as is usually the case."
