He has now died at the age of 87.

He was more than just a recreational athlete.

Poing – He was able to motivate children, young people and adults alike to do something for their bodies.

With his always calm and very friendly, engaging manner, he even got entire families to train for the sports badge over several weeks with the aim of getting the “Mini Olympics for everyone” badge at the end.

For many years, Gottfried Scholz from Poinger was responsible for the organization and implementation of performance inspections.

When he was 77 years old, he completed the German sports badge for the 25th time.

From 2003 to 2012 he was the official sports badge speaker for the Ebersberg sports district.

Poing’s “Mister Sportabzeichen” recently died at the age of 87.

Poing: Founder of the chess department at TSV Poing

Not only physical sports, but also mental sports were his hobby.

In 1973 he joined TSV Poing and founded the chess department.

He was also chairman of the TSV for eight years and auditor in several clubs for many decades.

No wonder, Gottfried Scholz was a trained accountant.

Another club close to his heart, the Poinger Farmers' Weddings, in which he was active.

The club organizes a big farm wedding with all the trimmings every five years during the carnival season.

Gottfried Scholz was also involved in the Poing local group of the Sudeten German Country Team.

Awarded the Poinger Citizens Medal

Ten years ago, at the beginning of 2014, Scholz was honored with the Citizens' Medal of the municipality of Poing for his voluntary work.

Ten years ago, at the age of 77, when he was awarded the Citizens' Medal, Gottfried Scholz revealed in an interview with our newspaper why he no longer plays tournament chess: "It's costing me too much nerves now."
