It worked on the second attempt: the main committee of the Wolfratshausen city council approved 5,000 euros in “start-up financing” for the art tower at Schwankl-Eck.

Wolfratshausen – In October last year, the organizing team of the Kunstturm gallery on Schwankl-Eck came away completely empty-handed, as reported.

When the city council's cultural committee decided on the grant applications from numerous local associations and institutions, it rejected Hans-Werner Kuhlmann, Hamit Cordan and John Schille.

The trio had applied for 10,000 euros.

Now the main committee of the city council approved 5,000 euros as “start-up financing” for the art tower with a 10-0 vote.

Project should become a “hotspot” - city councils approve “start-up financing”

The Culture Committee postponed the application in the fall after a short debate.

Dr.

Manfred Fleischer (Wolfratshauser List) considered a subsidy of a maximum of 1,500 euros to be “legitimate” because the municipality could under no circumstances act as a “rental financier”.

Third mayor Annette Heinloth (Greens) saw it similarly, the city council's cultural officer, Sepp Schwarzenbach (CSU), struggled with the fact that the co-owner of the house at Obermarkt 33 was part of the organizing team.

However, the art tower project “should under no circumstances be allowed to die,” said Schwarzenbach.

Kuhlmann and Co. were advised to ask for funds from another funding pot - the keyword was the inner city fund.

The Wolfratshauser Kunstturm is set to develop into a hotspot for the art scene.

Hans Werner Kuhlmann

The Kunstturm team took this route, which, as reported, took over after the previous tenant, the Isar-Loisach Cultural Association, ran out of financial steam at the beginning of 2023.

“The Schwankl-Eck is centrally located in Wolfratshausen city center and has been used for artistic purposes for a long time.

We want to continue this tradition intensively through exhibitions by local, regional and international artists with different art styles,” said the application.

In addition, according to the organizing team, “the musical and scenic areas should be included”.

In short: “The Wolfratshauser Kunstturm should develop into a hotspot for the art scene,” explained Kuhlmann

The goal is for the gallery to become “independent” within three years

However, without “appropriate start-up financing”, the project is doomed to failure.

“The objective is towards independence and independence, with a move away from external subsidies within three years,” emphasized the former chairman of the Lebendige Altstadt (LAW) association in the application.

Kuhlmann continues: “During the project period, the necessary network will be built that will maintain and support the art tower in the long term.

Measures such as network meetings, building partnerships, setting up projects and participating in the community festival help.”

The organization team puts the “project volume” at around 12,000 euros - and applied for 5,000 euros from the project fund to revitalize Wolfratshausen's city center.

According to Kuhlmann, the project period begins on April 1st of this year and ends on October 31st this year.

City manager expects funding from urban development funding

City manager Dr.

Stefan Werner had researched in anticipation of the meeting of the main committee: "If the measure is recognized by the government of Upper Bavaria as an investment-accompanying or investment-preparatory measure, 60 percent of the subsidy, i.e. 3,000 euros, can be reimbursed through urban development funding," he told the members of the expert committee.

In this case, the costs for the municipality would be reduced to 2,000 euros.

The main committee, which also represents the city marketing steering group, unanimously approved the Kunstturm team's request.

Before the vote, a total of 15,000 euros were available for third-party measures that would help make the city center more attractive.
