They answer the phone as alleged criminal police or prosecutors.

Tell them that the child caused a fatal accident and ask for a deposit.

A couple in Westried almost lost 150,000 euros because of this perfidious scam.

Murnau – That was close.

A senior couple from Murnau-Westried almost lost 150,000 euros on Tuesday afternoon.

The two almost became victims of a so-called shock call.

Alleged officers from the criminal police and public prosecutor's office had contacted the Westrieders: their daughter had caused an accident in which a person had died.

As those called describe, the supposed officers spoke the clearest German, so they must have been Germans.

The crooks instructed the couple to do the following: In order to protect their daughter from prison, the parents should now pay a deposit of 150,000 euros.

Things ended well.

No payment was made to the unscrupulous fraudsters.

When they later put pressure on the phone and announced that they would contact the police, the supposed officers hung up.

The seniors turned their case to the Murnau police and also to the Tagblatt.

They want to warn their fellow human beings about the perfidious scams.

Perfidious scam with shock calls: Scammers pose as fake police officers or public prosecutors

The police in the Murnau area are currently receiving many shock calls.

“We are having another wave at the moment,” explains Joachim Loy, head of the Murnau police station.

Most of the time, fraudsters use one of two scams.

In one case - like the Westrieders - they pose as criminal police and prosecutors, claim that a child or grandchild caused a bad accident and want bail.

“That’s nonsense,” emphasizes Loy.

The police do not require bail to avoid imprisonment.

“You can’t bargain with the public prosecutor either.”

The officials also do not demand the return of money, gold or other valuables.

Just like the scammers do in a second popular scam.

Here, alleged police officers answer the phone and claim that there has been an increase in break-ins in the neighborhood and that those called are now also at risk.

The police would take money and valuables into custody and those affected should not contact the bank.

A young employee there allegedly works with the burglars.

Shock calls: This is what the police advise

“That’s crazy,” says Loy.

He advises those affected the following in the event of a shock call: “Stop for a moment, don’t let yourself be put under pressure and report to the right police immediately.” Either at the next inspection or at the central emergency number 110. “But call under no circumstances return the number that called.”

You can't warn about shock calls “often enough,” emphasizes Loy.

Fraudsters are apparently increasingly active throughout the Garmisch-Partenkirchen district.

In Garmisch-Partenkirchen, crooks robbed an 80-year-old of his savings on Tuesday.

The senior lost gold coins and cash worth a low five-figure amount.

Here the fraudsters claimed that the son had caused a fatal traffic accident.

The criminal police are investigating.
