The repair of damage on the Herrschinger Ufer after the December storm Zoltan is in full swing.

As of this week, a company has been busy removing driftwood from the riverside path in Wartaweil.

Herrsching - The riverside path along Lake Ammersee has not been accessible for about one and a half kilometers between house number 60 in Wartaweil and the White Column in the past few weeks.

It was only after complaints from walkers that the town hall administration was made aware that not only the bank along the promenade in Herrsching, but also the walking path to the south in Wartaweil had been affected by December storm Zoltan.

Because the building yard has its hands full repairing the damage in the local area, a specialist company had to be commissioned to remove the washed-up wood in Wartaweil.

They have been busy removing the wood for two days now, as Herrsching's building site manager Josef Mörtl explains.

Yesterday he and his team finished working the floating gravel between Seespitz and the old sports field back into the bank.

Now we continue in Wartaweil.

The wood has to be transported there.

“We then process this into wood chips and reuse it,” explains Mörtl.

Anything that cannot be used ends up in the compost heap.

The width of the riverside path is problematic.

Because it is very narrow, only one excavator can drive back and forth.

And there are only two access roads through which the construction yard can reach the route with its Unimogs.

“Backwards,” says the building yard manager.

Work will probably take a few more weeks

Meanwhile, work has also begun on repairing the damaged sea wall at Seehof.

The destroyed part in front of the entrance to the spa park is already covered in concrete and could be concreted if the wind didn't play tricks on the work.

“Water is constantly being flushed in,” says Mörtl.

For this reason, we are not going any further at this point.

The washed-out pavement on the promenade near Dillitzerstrasse has now been repaired.

Herrsching's construction site manager expects the work to continue for another three or four weeks.

“We also have to rework the gravel on the riverside path in Wartaweil, restore the path and fill in the paths on the riverside wall in the spa park.” There are currently still a few holes opening up there.

Only then is it time for “our real work”.

The construction yard is usually busy in February cutting back bushes, preparing the green areas for spring and repairing roads after frost.
