A man was sentenced to three months in prison on Wednesday for attacking a deputy mayor of Beaurepaire (Seine-Maritime) who had asked him to move a car, the Le Havre prosecutor said on Thursday.
The attacker was sentenced in court on prior admission of guilt (CRPC) to four months suspended prison sentence, three years of deprivation of his civil rights and obligation to complete a citizenship course within six months, specified Bruno Dieudonné, confirming information from Paris Normandy.
The doctor ordered a five-day ITT for the victim, he added.
Protection of local elected officials
The Beaurepaire town hall had announced that a deputy mayor, aged 70, had received a headbutt from one of his constituents on Friday, ordered to move a car.
A press release published on the town hall's Facebook page explained that the attack followed the request of the mayor of the town Carol Gondouin to move a
"suction cup"
vehicle from a public parking lot belonging to the Le Havre Seine Métropole Urban Community.
According to article R417-12 of the Highway Code, parking a vehicle becomes
“abusive if its duration exceeds seven days, or exceeds that fixed by decree”
.
“The vehicle had been there for several months
,” the mayor explained to France Bleu Normandie,
“and it was not a fine, just a note asking him to move it.”
“The next day, my assistant was going out to get his mail, the owner of the vehicle, who lives on the same street, went to find him and gave him
a big headbutt
, saying “you’re the one who called the cops ””
, he continued,
“it didn’t make sense, it was me who said the word”
.
Beaurepaire is a rural commune of less than 500 inhabitants, located 25 kilometers north of Le Havre.
This attack came as the National Assembly adopted on Wednesday at first reading a senatorial text aimed at better protecting local elected officials, who are increasingly faced with violence.
