A collective of civil society groups on Thursday called on Senegalese people to
“mobilize massively”
against the postponement of the presidential election, citing a series of upcoming actions such as a demonstration and a strike against the backdrop of a serious political crisis.
“We invite all citizens concerned with the preservation of democratic achievements to mobilize massively throughout the country and in the diaspora to prevent this confiscation of power
,” said the new platform Aar Sunu Election (
“Let’s protect our election”
) in a statement.

This involves around forty citizen and religious groups and professional organizations, including several education unions.
“A large demonstration is planned for Tuesday
,” Malick Diop, who presents himself as one of the coordinators of the platform, told the press in Dakar.
The speakers mentioned a call for a general strike on an unspecified date, and a walkout from Friday in the education sector.
In its written statement, the platform calls on the faithful to go to the great Muslim Friday prayer dressed in white and displaying the national colors.
