Around one in six jobs in Hesse are paid a maximum of around 13 euros per hour; women in particular work in these jobs.
The average hourly wage is significantly higher.
Wiesbaden - In Hesse, the number of low-wage jobs has fallen significantly by 49,000 positions.
In April 2023, their share was 16 percent of the total of almost 3.1 million employment relationships, the State Statistical Office in Wiesbaden announced on Thursday.
That is a decline of 1.8 percentage points within one year.
The threshold for low wages in April 2023 was an hourly wage of 13.04 euros gross (2022: 12.50 euros), 497,000 jobs were paid so low.
More women worked in these jobs than men; their share was 55 percent.
The higher earners received at least 40.67 euros per hour gross in April 2023.
This group is defined as the tenth of all employees with the highest hourly wages.
The difference between their earnings and those of low earners fell: in spring 2023, higher earners received at least 3.32 times as much money as low earners; a year earlier it had been 3.60 times as much.
The tenth of employees with the lowest hourly wage are considered low earners.
The average hourly wage in April last year was 20.74 euros gross.
