Skiing in Austria has become an expensive pleasure.
In particular, the costs of food and drinks in the ski huts have exploded.
Austria – powder snow, bright sunshine, successful descents and a refreshing soda with a snack at the ski hut – perfect ski weekend in Austria.
But that is becoming increasingly difficult.
Due to climate change, operators have to prepare for increasingly frequent seasons with little snow, which reduces planning security for skiers.
Anyone who wants to treat themselves to at least one bike for the way home might also be disappointed.
An investigation by the Salzburg Chamber of Labor has shown that prices in the ski areas of our German neighbors have recently risen sharply.
Price shock in Austrian ski resorts – yeast dumplings for 13.50 euros
The price increases at the stop were particularly noticeable.
For example, ski water in the Salzburg ski huts has become an impressive 63 percent more expensive in recent years, with a top price of an impressive 6.10 euros for water with syrup.
Overall, the costs of stopping at Salzburg ski huts have risen by 60 percent within 10 years - that's twice as much as the general price increase in Austria.
During the investigation, 192 ski huts in 23 ski areas in Salzburg were examined.
The result: The large ski areas in particular have significantly increased their prices.
24 products, including 11 drinks and 13 foods, were examined.
Expensive enjoyment: In Leogang, a yeast dumpling costs an impressive 13.50 euros.

The prices for drinks rose on average by almost 50 percent, and the increase for food was even greater.
Ski water and apple strudel were named the frontrunners for price increases.
The latter has become 75 percent more expensive in the last ten years.
Frankfurters, on the other hand, were “only” 69 percent more expensive.
The most expensive yeast dumpling in the study was discovered in Leogang for 13.50 euros.
This development is anything but pleasant for winter sports fans.
Christian Obermoser, consumer advocate at the Chamber of Labor, was quoted in a press release from the AK: “If you look at the results of our last gastronomy survey, it is clear that ski hut prices have risen excessively.”
However, there is also positive news: the prices for refreshments are not the same everywhere.
There are significant price differences in different areas.
For example, half a liter of ski water costs 6.13 euros in Obertauern, while inwerfenweng you can get away with 3 euros for the same amount comparatively cheaply.
For the products tested, the price differences from area to area can be up to 132 percent.
A plate of spaghetti Bolognese in Flachau costs an impressive 16.90 euros, while in Saalbach-Fieberbrunn you only pay 8.90 euros for it.
Record prices in Salzburger Land: ski areas remain popular
Despite the high prices, winter sports in Salzburger Land do not seem to be losing popularity.
According to a report by
Standard,
the ski areas are very popular.

In Lower Austria the prices for refreshments seem to be comparatively moderate.
The local format

compared the prices there with those in Salzburg.
The result: You are better off in terms of price in Lower Austria, especially when it comes to drinks.
However, the costs of food also vary in Lower Austria.
Mario Pulker, gastro spokesman for the WKO, explained to
NÖN
that restaurateurs in ski areas are struggling with both logistical challenges and increasing expenses.
This could be a reason for the increased prices.
In general, it can be said that skiing will become more expensive again in 2024.
Prices have not only risen in the catering industry, but visitors are also having to dig deeper into their pockets for lift tickets.
