Televisions at Stiftung Warentest: The most important features

  • Stiftung Warentest has found that

smaller devices perform significantly worse than larger ones

    .

From a size of 48 inches, most televisions have a very good picture and good sound.

  • OLED televisions

offer the best picture because they have organic light-emitting diodes.

The pixels glow themselves, making the image less sensitive to scattered light from outside.

In addition, OLED displays deliver stronger contrasts and richer blacks.

However, these televisions cost more than LCD sets.

  • UHD as the new standard

: All newer televisions usually achieve the UHD resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels.

But this also requires the right content.

Films and series on streaming portals as well as next-gen video games usually have a 4K resolution, but classic television channels do not.

  • If you choose a UHD television, Stiftung Warentest recommends making sure that the device

    also supports HDR

    .

This stands for High Dynamic Range and enables an even higher contrast range - i.e. larger differences between the light and dark pixels.

  • It makes sense to expand the television with an additional soundbar.

    The

    sound quality

of many devices leaves something to be desired because the speakers in the flat screens do not have enough volume for good sound.

This is particularly recommended for small televisions.

A backlight on the television can be retrofitted in just a few steps.

Ambilight has experienced real hype in recent years.

We will introduce you to the options for installing the right background lighting on your television.
