What could be the most expensive residential property in the United States has hit the market.
That is if it finally manages to sell at the price the sellers are asking for: $295 million.
The housing complex, built by financier John Donahue beginning in the 1980s for his family of 13 children and 84 grandchildren, is located on
a 60-acre area
known as Gordon Pointe, in Naples, Florida.

The story goes that Donahue saw the ledge on the west coast of Florida during a plane trip in 1985 and decided it was the ideal place to raise a family.
He ended up paying the sum of 1 million dollars for an initial 4.3-acre plot of land, which he later expanded, according to The Wall Street Journal.
The complex came to the market with the Dawn McKenna Group, of Coldwell Banker Realty, which partnered with The Leighton Candler Team and Savills Rory McMullen for the operation.

The original house, to which the financier later added two other homes,
includes a private yacht entrance

For decades the property hosted figures such as President George HW Bush and First Lady Barbara Bush.
After the death of Donahue and his wife Rhodora, who were married for 70 years, their descendants decided to get rid of the properties.
The main house is 11,500 square feet
(1,068 square meters)
in size , with six bedrooms and an indoor pool.

The second residence, built in 1990, is about 5,500 square feet (510 square meters) with five bedrooms and an outdoor pool.
