Will snow fall on the French mountains next week?
The question is on the lips of skiers and professionals in the sector, while some resorts are showing worrying snow conditions and the winter school holidays begin this Saturday, January 10 for students in zone C (Créteil, Montpellier, Paris, Toulouse and Versailles).
After three weeks of spring weather, the French massifs are
“cruelly lacking snow”
, notes
La Chaîne Météo
*.
Only the Northern Alps benefit from
“significant snow cover
” above 2000 to 2500 meters above sea level.
But the Pyrenees are experiencing, for this time of year, their
“lowest snowfall in 24 years”
.
Something to worry professionals and skiers.
What will it actually be?
Snow from 1700 meters in the Alps
On Saturday, the snowflakes will only fall above 1700 meters in the
Alps
, particularly the Southern Alps, predicts the specialist site.
The same will apply from 1600 meters on the
Pyrenees
and the
Massif Central
.
On Sunday, with a cooling air mass, snow will fall in the mountains from 1400 meters on average, particularly in the
Alps
and the
Pyrenees
.
The lower altitude massifs, such as the
Jura
and the
Vosges
, will have to wait
“probably until Sunday or even Monday to see snow”
, adds Météo France.
“Maintenance of the snow cover”
Monday and Tuesday,
“a precipitation should pass and bring a sprinkling on the crests of the
Vosges
and the
Jura
above 1400 meters”
, specifies Cyril Wuest, meteorologist from
La Chaîne Météo
.
For the rest of the week, there will be no new snow on the mountain ranges.
On the other hand, temperatures will be seasonal, which
“will allow the snow cover to be maintained, particularly in the
Alps
”
.
Likewise, these temperatures will be
“favorable”
for the creation of artificial snow.
In summary, the snow cover will only be good in the
Alps
, from 1500 meters, unlike all the other massifs which will be in deficit.
“Or else, we will have to go high in altitude, and even then that will not be a panacea,”
warns the meteorologist.
