It is one of the most popular foods globally, so we couldn't miss having a day in its honor:
every February 9, "International Pizza Day" is celebrated
and the main Buenos Aires pizzerias celebrate it with a delicious gift: They offer
4,000 free portions for fans of this round passion.
At a global level, this event has taken place since 2017 when pizza was declared Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO, due to its role in social life and the transmission of this culinary art between generations.
But this Buenos Aires celebration is an initiative carried out for the first time by APYCE, the Association of Pizzerias and Empanada Houses of the Argentine Republic, which during the year organizes other days with promotions such as Pizza and Empanada Night.
When and where to eat free pizza
This free and open celebration for the public will take place in downtown Buenos Aires.
In total they will use 150 kilos of flour, 180 kilos of mozzarella and 50 kilos of tomato sauce to
cook the traditional pan pizza
: the most classic of all, tall and spongy to satisfy the average Buenos Aires palate.
The appointment is tomorrow, Friday, February 9, between 12 and 4 p.m. at the Obelisco (Av. Roque Sáenz Peña 1,100).
Attendees will receive a bonus for a slice of pizza that will be delivered at the corners of Corrientes and Cerrito and Corrientes and Carlos Pellegrini.
This bonus is valid only during the event time and until the 4000 available portions are exhausted.
The truck in which the 4,000 slices of pizza will be made.
All this movement is possible thanks to the use of a self-sustaining kitchen truck of 11 tons and 30 meters long, in which
25 pizza masters will prepare the 4,000 slices of pizza that will be delivered free of charge.
This vehicle has 2 ovens, a 300-liter water supply system (at the bottom of the kitchen truck), its own generator, refrigerator and mixer, among other tools necessary on this occasion.
In addition, he already has 2 Guinness records: in 2018 he entered that book for making the greatest number of pizzas prepared in 12 hours by a team and the greatest number of empanadas served in 8 hours during an event held at the Obelisk.
