“punishment”

: the Nanterre court on the night of Thursday February 8 sentenced a 19-year-old rioter to two years in prison and released two other defendants accused of having set fire to the Asnières court ( Hauts-de-Seine) during a night of riots at the end of June 2023. The young adult received five years of imprisonment, three of which were suspended on probation with the obligation to work and complete a citizenship course.

His two co-defendants, both aged 20, were released.

The three young men have a more or less extensive criminal record, in particular for possession and acquisition of drugs or for violence against a person holding public authority.

A few hours earlier, the public prosecutor had requested up to five years in prison against these three young people.

“What does this youth need to understand that there are sanctuaries?”

, he asked himself.

According to the lawyer for the state judicial agent, the damage caused amounts

to “millions of euros”

.

Since the events, the activities of the local court have been relocated to Colombes for a planned duration of four years.

Shortly before 2 a.m. on the night of June 28 to 29, the day after the death of Nahel killed by a police officer in Nanterre, the Asnières local court was attacked by several individuals, according to video surveillance images included in the file .

Its windows are broken, molotov cocktails are thrown at the building.

The fire quickly took hold and devastated the entire ground floor of the court, without spreading to the three floors.

The day after these damages, the Minister of Justice Eric Dupond-Moretti went to the site.

On the third day of the urban riots, he denounced

“those who spit on the police and the justice system”

,

“moral accomplices”

of the perpetrators of the violence committed during these events.
