Business and Made in Italy Minister Adolfo Urso said Thursday he expected Stellantis to create agigafactory in Italy too after the one the Italian-Franco-US carmaker recently unveiled in France.
"I have talked to Stellantis, as is my duty, several times in these months of government," Uro said in Brussels after recent doubts about the carmaker's commitment to Italian production.
"I met (CEO Carlo) Tavares twice, once in Rome, and on that occasion he assured me of the goal of reaching a production level in Italy of one million vehicles.
"He said this publicly.
"Then I also met him in France, when they inaugurated the first gigafactory.
"I expect that one will soon be realized in our country too".
Likewise, the minister added, "I have met (Chairman) John Elkann three times".
Elkann this week confirmed Stellantis's Italian commitments after Tavares said it would need major incentives to make more cars to keep up its Italian production.
