Open 24 hours a day and all year round - this business model of a fully automated mini supermarket is currently very trendy.

Also in Bruck.

District – Such a self-service shop will soon open in the center of Bruck.

A similar store has been running in Neu-Esting for a few weeks.

Apparently Alexander Reich has discovered a gap in the market.

The 40-year-old junior boss of an entrepreneurial family with deep roots in Esting has set up a vending machine shop right across from his office on Senserstrasse.

“The residents and especially older people like it,” he says.

Video surveillance

In the residential area with a number of high-rise and apartment buildings there is a bakery, but no supermarket or corner shop.

In addition to drinks, sweets and snacks - comparable to the vending machines at train stations - a small selection of ready meals, dairy products and sausages can be taken from the vending machine compartment in the video-monitored no-name store.

In case the fridge is empty at home after work or on public holidays and a small hunger needs to be satisfied quickly.

The price

Reich purchases the goods wholesale and the vending machines are replenished as needed.

Of course, the special service also has its price.

Butter costs 2.30 euros, a packet of wholemeal bread costs 1.50 euros, a tube of mustard costs 1.80 euros and a piece of liver sausage costs two euros.

Grilled meat will also be part of the range in summer.

At the moment, the chips that are trendy among young people are all the rage.

In addition to soft drinks, water and cola, there are also alcoholic drinks.

However, these can only be issued with proof of age via ID or credit card.

Otherwise the following applies in Esting: Cash only.

Another shop is being built on the main street in Fürstenfeldbruck.

According to the operator, it will be an “intelligent” self-service shop.

Things will soon be different in Fürstenfeldbruck, where a much larger and, above all, “intelligent” self-service shop is currently being set up on the main street (in the former Photo Express).

Intelligent because the customer can order the entire purchase at the terminal, pay (online or cash) and take it with them, similar to a well-known fast food chain.

Thomas Resch wants to open the first store of this kind in Fürstenfeldbruck in mid-February.

In Garmisch-Partenkirchen, the 56-year-old former restaurateur already runs a similar vending machine supermarket, which, like in Bruck, is equipped with equipment from an Austrian provider.

No employees are needed

Everything included (ten machines, surveillance system, installation) costs a store around 165,000 euros, but can also be leased for a monthly fee of 3,500 euros.

In addition, there are the rental costs for the premises.

In return, the owners are spared salary payments.

In times of a shortage of skilled workers and staff shortages in the retail and catering industries, the vending machine shop could prove to be a clever move.

And the drinks, which are mostly sold in cans, are subject to a deposit, but unlike in “normal” supermarkets, they cannot be returned on the spot.
