Right-wing extremist plans are also directed against the LGBTQ community.

Queer politicians, activists, actors and authors talk about their demands and fears.

Last weekend, hundreds of thousands took to the streets in Germany to demonstrate against right-wing extremism.

Right-wing extremist ideas not only affect people with a migration background, but also other minorities such as the queer community.

The federal government's queer commissioner warns of a society in which hate is unleashed

“The Correctiv

revelations

have clearly shown what the AfD is up to.

These plans also target members of our community, they target LGBTIQ* of color, LGBTIQ* with an immigrant background, and queer refugees.

An AfD government would restrict freedoms and rights that have been fought for.

An AfD government would abolish the anti-discrimination law.

In plain language, this means that the AfD wants to allow someone to be fired again because they are gay or not to serve a lesbian couple in a restaurant.

The Office for the Protection of the Constitution observes that right-wing extremists are agitating against LGBTIQ* more and more openly and aggressively.

A society in which hate, contempt and anger are celebrated, even unleashed, is not a society in which minorities like LGBTIQ* are safe.

It is a society in which ultimately no one is safe,” says Sven Lehmann, the federal government’s queer commissioner

Actor Jo Weil says: “Never again is now!

Not yesterday, not tomorrow, but today.

The situation is worrying, we cannot stand idly by.

Together against the right and for a peaceful life in freedom, regardless of a person's sexual orientation, origin or faith."

"When I look at the news, I lose my sense of humor too.

What is currently happening seems eerily familiar.

Add to that Alice Weidel's self-assured, malicious smile when she rambles about leaving the EU.

In the end it would hit the minorities again, the undesirables,” says comic author Ralf König.

Queer political spokeswoman for the Left demands that the AfD no longer be given a stage

“Only a broad alliance of democracy and humanity can help against misanthropy.

But that alone is not enough.

You won't get rid of the AfD if you adopt their slogans and just represent them in a more moderate way.

The democratic parties and the media also have to ask themselves what they did to allow the AfD to become so strong.

At least now they should no longer be given a platform where it can somehow be avoided,” says Kathrin Vogler, queer policy spokeswoman for the Left.

And Jürgen Lenders, spokesperson for LGBTI in the FDP parliamentary group, says: “By making the history of the persecution of LGBTIQ* visible to future generations, we are saving it from being forgotten.

LGBTIQ* continue to be a vulnerable social group, and the number of attacks on queer people continues to rise.

I see a great danger in right-wing circles deliberately spreading disinformation.

Queer people increasingly no longer feel safe in public spaces.

It is important in these times to show your face and stand up for your opinion, not only in public acts, but also in your personal everyday life and environment.

Taking a stand against this is deeply civil - and unites the Union, FDP, SPD and Greens.”

“I love the diversity of people.

She has always enriched my life.

I will always raise my voice against people and groups who question this diversity,” says Lilo Wanders.

“The rise of the right is leading to an ever-increasing decline in tolerance and respect among all vulnerable groups – including in sex work.

“Historically speaking, it has always been the same gradual sequence of emerging moralization and stigmatization, then disenfranchisement, barracking and criminalization,” says Der Dominus, activist and press spokesman for the sex work professional association.

Till Randolf Amelung, author and diversity expert, says: “The AfD is skilled at identifying controversial and therefore useful topics, such as the planned self-determination law.

Unfortunately, many in our community have played into the hands of right-wing extremists by deliberately stifling them.

Right-wing extremists criticize everything against their ideological background and not on the basis of democratic, enlightened values.

We should not forget that."

“Rights for women, trans* and non-binary people are at risk”

“The radical right instrumentalizes issues surrounding gender in order to establish radical right-wing arguments in the middle of society.

All rights for women, trans* and non-binary people and other marginalized groups that have been fought for over the past decades are in danger,” says Gabriel_Nox Koenig, press spokesman for the Federal Trans* Association

Jim Baker, founder of the first lesbian-gay publishing house in Germany (Querverlag) says: “It must be clear to us as gays that the rights that we have laboriously won over years of struggle can be dismantled just as quickly.

And that is exactly what the right-wing political spectrum is working on.

Therefore: get involved.

Raise your voice.

If you don’t act, you will react.”

“Before history repeats itself, we must learn from the mistakes of the past.

How a country's society treats its minorities is always evidence of the extent to which this country is worth living in for everyone, not just for the minorities.

Attacks on sexual and religious minorities are warning signals for all of us that a brutalization is currently taking place in society,” says Roger Holzapfel-Barta, managing director of the Hotel Deutsche Eiche.

Children's book author Marie Miro calls on the community to stand together against right-wing extremism

“We are in the rainbow together and therefore the following applies: together against the right.

Despite all the arguments and controversies that are currently occupying us, we are firmly opposed to any form of violence against people of the rainbow,” says Florian Greller, founder of Just Gay

“We as a community must take a clear stand against right-wing extremism, because for them we will always remain inferior, second-class people.

At the same time, the experiences of these days should also be a wake-up call to all of us, including the media, to promote less propaganda and more objective criticism." Marie Miro, children's book author and columnist

We have to defend ourselves against right-wing queer hostility.

Good prevention only works if society accepts the different realities of people's lives.

It must be possible to provide open information about all needs and protection against infections.

We must defend ourselves and show solidarity with all people who are attacked by the right.

Chris Gaa, German Aids Aid

“We take a clear position against any form of exclusion of minorities and marginalized groups.

Now more than ever we need people who are loud, courageously celebrate their individuality and our community and take a position against the right,” says Pavlo Stroblja, CEO and founder of Queermentor
