The carnival holidays are just around the corner.

However, due to the lack of snow, bookings in the Tölzer Land sometimes fall short of expectations.

Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen – The carnival holidays are approaching and many families are going on vacation.

Numerous tourists are also drawn to the Tölzer Land during the crazy times.

This year, however, the lack of wintry weather is putting a damper on hoteliers and hostel operators' plans.

Bookings have so far fallen short of expectations – with the exception of Lenggries.

Skiing in Lenggries is still possible

“We have already had a few inquiries,” says Maria Bader from the Lenggrieser Tourist Information.

Most of the accommodations are already “well utilized”.

There are only a few places to stay overnight, especially for several people.

However, Bader points out that not all bookings are made through the tourist information office.

The majority of guests are families with children.

“Many people want to take ski courses at Brauneck,” says Bader.

On Monday, 11 of the 15 lifts on Lenggries' local mountain were still in operation and, with one exception, all the slopes were open.

The valley descent is also still possible.

Without snow, fewer guests come to Jachenau

Things look completely different in Jachenau.

The current lack of winter weather is having a negative impact on bookings.

“We are currently not at full capacity,” reports Rosmarie Fischer from the Jachenau guest information center.

Some accommodations are occupied, but some others are still free.

Fischer doesn't believe that this will change by the start of the carnival holidays.

The reason: too little snow.

Many of their guests come to Jachenau to practice winter sports and, in particular, to use the cross-country ski trail there.

But that is now not possible.

In addition, bookings are predominantly made at short notice during carnival season.

An untracked cross-country ski trail turns out to be a negative point.

“If the snow situation doesn’t improve, bookings will probably hardly increase,” is Fischer’s assessment.

That's why we're still hoping for a few white flakes before the holidays start.

In Bad Tölz there is still “clear room for improvement”

Brita Hohenreiter, spa and tourism director for the city of Bad Tölz, feels the same way.

The number of inquiries to the tourist information office has so far been limited. “There is still a lot of room for improvement.” Here too, the weather is currently not playing into the holiday business’s hands.

“Without snow, things are pretty slow,” reports Hohenreiter.

Hopes rest on a return of winter – or permanently spring-like temperatures.

Because Tölz holidaymakers are usually not the typical winter sports enthusiasts, explains the tourism director.

In addition to tobogganing and cross-country skiing, popular activities include hiking and cycling.

It has also been our experience that guests make extremely spontaneous decisions in the off-season.

“If the first weather forecasts come out this week, bookings could increase significantly,” said Hohenreiter.

Kochel is not a classic winter sports destination

Things are usually rather quiet in Kochel am See during the winter holidays.

“We don’t have the classic carnival holidaymakers,” explains Daniel Weickel, head of the municipality’s tourism department.

This is mainly due to the fact that generally few families are drawn to Kochel due to the structure of the offerings.

In addition: “We are not a classic winter sports destination,” says Weickel.

Many of the guests instead booked a wellness day at the Kristall-Therme Trimini or combined their stay with a visit to a special event.
