Werner Krösche recently celebrated his 90th birthday.

While walking with his wife, he accidentally discovered the house in Wolfratshausen where the couple lives today.

Wolfratshausen – If Werner Krösche only invites his immediate family to his 90th birthday, the cozy living room is no longer enough.

“I’m a father of three, a grandfather of seven and a great-grandfather of five – so it’s getting a bit tight,” he lists and laughs.

That's why the family doesn't meet until the day after his birthday to celebrate the anniversary.

On his special day, it is Mayor Klaus Heilinglechner who sits down on the sofa and wants to know a little about the Wolfratshauser's life.

Werner Krösche celebrates his 90th birthday: He met his wife at work

Krösche was born as the family's second child in the Ruhr region, more precisely in Essen.

After school, he did an apprenticeship as a commercial clerk - and that's where he immediately met his future wife.

“We both worked in a food wholesaler,” he reports.

“And of course we had to go through all departments, including accounting.

The largest and most modern devices at the time were there – and she was sitting next to me.” The colleagues became a married couple in 1979.

Krösche continued his education, worked for a large company first in Duisburg, and later ended up at Schwarzkopf in Hamburg.

“I was initially a sales representative in the field and three years later took over sales management.” In 1980 he was appointed to the board and was responsible for various business relationships in England and France.

While walking in Wolfratshausen we accidentally discovered the house we live in today.

Five years later, Krösche left the company and became self-employed as a financial advisor for Roland Berger Unternehmensberatung, headquartered in Munich.

“While walking in Wolfratshausen we discovered the house we live in today by chance.”

The Krösches feel comfortable in the Oberland.

The man celebrating his birthday is a long-time member of the Wolfratshausen Tennis Club and took on responsibility on the board for a while.

Even today he often picks up a racket, is still active in sports and is also “passionate about playing skat.”

The couple also traveled a lot in their free time.

“We know the globe except for Australia.” One of the most beautiful excursions, however, are the bike tours through Europe, which they almost exclusively organized themselves.

“From the Großglockner to the Po Valley – I can only recommend it, the landscape is unique.”

Heilinglechner can only praise the fact that Krösche's active life has ensured that his 90 years are not visible.

“You won't believe it when you see it.” Krösche's gaze wanders over the portrait of his counterpart.

“Oh, Mr. Mayor,” he counters modestly, “but you also look younger than in the pictures I’ve seen of you so far.”
