An indictment will be filed against the suspect in the murder of Ilana Azgadian in the cell/spokesperson of the Israel Police

An indictment was filed this morning (Thursday) against 33-year-old Daniel Margoshin from Ashdod, for the aggravated murder of Ilana Azgadian.

The indictment is based on a large amount of evidence that linked him to the horrific murder on Dizengoff Street last month.

Azgadian, a Russian citizen and mother of two girls, stayed in Israel with a tourist visa and stayed in an apartment on Dizengoff Street as part of "Sublet" in exchange for looking after the owner's dog.

Azgadian's friend said a few weeks ago in a conversation with Walla, that the deceased came to Israel in order to ask for a better future for her and her little daughters.

"Ilana did everything for her family," said her friend.

"She told her daughters that they will still join her in Israel."

The murdered woman had already begun the process of conversion and was on her way to obtain official citizenship, but the hope of a good life for her and her children was cut short when Margoshin emerged at night to the apartment, and murdered her with horrific cruelty.

In his investigation, the defendant admitted that he used to meet with women who engage in prostitution in their apartments, after getting to know them on designated websites.

Margoshin also said that he liked talking to Azgadian and that there was a sympathy between them, "she was cool," he added.

When asked about the nature of his relationship with the murdered woman, he chose to maintain his right to remain silent, but Margoshin's friend stated in his testimony that he told him he had met her.

When asked about the motive for the murder, Margoshin chose not to answer.

Only when the investigation was over, and the recording camera turned off, did Margoshin open his mouth and say: "The truth is that I didn't want to kill her."

The investigator asked him what he was trying to do, "talk", the accused answered.

The crime fighting unit in the Yarkon area, which was tasked with the investigation, collected an audio recording of a conversation between the suspect and his friend in which he expressed anger and frustration at the behavior of women who refuse to invite him to their homes, and women who engage in prostitution and do not satisfy him sexually.

The indictment states that the way in which Margoshin entered the apartment indicates an intention to murder her.

The charge refers to the security camera footage obtained by the investigating unit in which a figure can be identified climbing onto the rest balcony and breaking into the apartment.

In additional documentation from the security cameras, a figure is seen coming out of the door of the building in the early hours of the morning, the escape route of the figure was also recorded, wearing a shirt with the inscription Star Wars that was found in the accused's house during the investigation.

The scene of the murder on Dizengoff Street in Tel Aviv/ZAKA

When Margoshin was recorded inside a bus, he was seen with a bloody finger, apparently from Azgadian's resistance to violence.

Margoshin's sister testified in the investigation that he contacted her after the murder and informed her that he had "bad news", sent her his bank account details and asked her to withdraw funds from his account.

According to the indictment, Margoshin set the apartment on fire in two locations in order to obscure the act of murder and disrupt the investigation.

A firefighter who worked to put out the fire in the apartment, testified in the investigation that he noticed a badly mutilated figure and believed that it was a doll.

A search on Margoshin's phone revealed that he searched on Google for the combinations, "murder in Tel Aviv" and "arson in Tel Aviv", apparently to check whether the case was investigated as arson or murder.

Reports submitted during the investigation by a forensic medicine expert suggested that Azgadian had "wounds that could be defensive wounds" on her hands.

It also emerged from the reports that the deceased found her death as a result of stab wounds, and only after that, she was set on fire and burned.

DNA samples of the deceased were found on Margoshin's hands and clothes.

A medical report shows that Azgadian's face had "wounds that could be defense wounds".

The central station in Jerusalem, where he was arrested/Israel Police spokeswoman

Margoshin was located at the central station in Jerusalem and arrested by the police.

During his arrest, he attacked the officers with a drawn knife and tried to stab them.

The police officers in response, fired and neutralized him on the spot.

As a result of the shooting, Margoshin was seriously injured and was taken to the hospital for medical treatment.

While hospitalized, Margoshin said to the sentry who was guarding him: "Why did the apartment really burn down? And what about the girl, too? I feel sorry for her children, if I hadn't burned down the apartment they would have found out only after 4 days that she died, would the police have come to me as well?".

During his investigation, Margoshin added: "I should have thrown her into the sea, it would have been different."

In addition to the main charge, Margoshin is charged with attempted murder of the officers who arrested him, a charge based on direct evidence from police officers, civilians and video documentation.

In the arrest request against him submitted by attorney Yonatan Eliyahu Tal from the Tel Aviv District Attorney's Office, it is written: "His actions are in fact the nightmare of every citizen who goes to sleep in his home, and in the dead of night a man enters and slaughters him with great cruelty, with dozens of knife stabs, without any provocation, while Old".
