Jean-Luc Mélenchon took Radio J and journalist Frédéric Haziza to court on Friday for comments made in his program by the president of the Republican Spring Amine El Khatmi, who had described the leader of the Insoumis as “anti-Semitic trash”.
The summary summons, consulted by AFP, was filed before the Paris judicial court after a formal notice remained “unanswered”.
It targets an interview with Amine El Khatmi done by Frédéric Haziza and broadcast on a podcast on Radio J, the Jewish community radio, on January 21.
During this interview, carried out after the controversies linked to the LFI's reaction to the Hamas attacks on October 7 in Israel, Amine El Khatmi, president of the Republican Spring movement, describes Jean-Luc Mélenchon as "anti-Semitic trash".
“Extremely serious” accusations which have an “infamous character” for the founder of La France insoumise.
“Moral harm”
The three-time presidential candidate, citing “undeniable moral harm”, requests in particular that the podcast be removed from the platforms where it was broadcast and where it remains accessible, such as the Radio J website.
“Curiously he does not assign Amine El Khatmi in parallel.
Proof that through this request he is trying to silence a media outlet and a journalist whom he undoubtedly judges to be too critical of him,” Frédéric Haziza responded to AFP.
“Amine El Khatmi will also be prosecuted”, indicated the entourage of Jean-Luc Mélenchon, who specified that he had “taken urgent steps to have the extract from the podcast deleted (…) given the seriousness of the remarks”.
A hearing is scheduled for February 27.
