A 43-year-old police officer was threatened with death in the parking lot of his residence in Puget-sur-Argens (Var), Wednesday February 7 late in the morning,

Le Figaro

learned from a source close to the matter.

While off duty that day, the civil servant, accompanied by his 10-year-old daughter, was preparing to go shopping.

It was then that a truck appeared in the parking lot with two individuals on board.

According to the complaint consulted by

Le Figaro

, the driver shouted death threats to the father:

“I know where you live now, I’m going to n***** your mother, I’m going to kill you, my friend”

.

The police officer recognizes this individual: he had participated in a search of his home the previous week in connection with a drug case.

A knife found on the suspect

Frightened by these threats, the policeman's little daughter returns home and locks herself away on the advice of her father.

The latter immediately takes the wheel to try to follow the truck and thus give its direction to the police.

Then the forty-year-old telephones his wife, about to return to their home.

She informs him that the two individuals have returned to the residence and that one of them is scrolling through the names on the intercom.

Informed of the facts, the municipal police arrived on site and checked the two individuals.

A knife was found on the person who was in front of the intercom.

This individual is also positive for narcotics.

The police officer filed a complaint.

A suspect, Virgil L., is on trial this Friday afternoon in immediate appearance by the Draguignan criminal court for

“threat of crime or misdemeanor against a person holding public authority”, “carrying a category D weapon”

and

“driving under drugs”

.

The accused has already been convicted by the courts for

“aggravated theft and receiving stolen goods”

.

Overheard, he admitted

“looking for the names on the digital code”

.

On the other hand, he denies the death threats and explains that he simply wanted

to “talk”

with the police officer.

“When a police officer and his family are in mortal danger, the entire private life of the members is shaken.

Anonymization, functional protection, financial support, sheltering the family, merciless criminal response.... We must review the rules for protecting police officers facing the risk of injury or death off duty due to their job!

Support for our colleague, his wife, and his daughter.

Our police families have not forgotten

Magnanville

(a couple of police officers were murdered by an Islamist terrorist in 2016, Editor's note)

,” responded Linda Kebbab, national delegate of the SGP Police FO Unit union, on X.
