The “Last Generation” wants to shift resistance from the streets to parliament.

An ambitious project with many hurdles.

Berlin – The “Last Generation” wants to “shake up” the EU Parliament from June – at least that’s what the activists call it in a press release.

After the climate movement announced that it would stop sticking people on Germany's roads in the future, a different path is now apparently being taken in the fight against climate change.

According to their own statements, they want to “bring the resistance into parliament” – and apparently even set up a party for this purpose.

The Last Generation group said Thursday that members used brushes to color the west side of the structure.

Berlin police reported that two climate activists were arrested.

An “other political association” has already been founded by the activists.

Now we have to find 100 determined helpers within the next few weeks, writes the Last Generation.

Likewise, 50,000 euros would be needed in the donation account.

“Then we will start collecting 4,500 signatures to be admitted to the election,” the letter says.

European elections on June 9th: “Last Generation” needs around 250,000 votes

The “Last Generation” is the “voice of those willing to survive,” said co-founder Henning Jeschke in an online conference on Wednesday.

It is very close for the intended candidacy in the 2024 European elections in June.

Many would have said that it couldn't work anymore.

But a vote share of around 0.5 percent is enough for the European Parliament in the polls.

That would only correspond to around 250,000 votes.

The European elections will take place on June 9th.

Around 330 million eligible voters from 27 countries will then be called upon to elect 720 representatives.

In the press release before the European elections, the Last Generation made it clear: They are not looking for personal power in the climate movement, but rather want to be the mood of a movement across Europe.

“We say what needs to be said and we do it in a way that no one can ignore it - loudly, honestly and with our hand on our heart.”
