Drivers have to prepare for block traffic on the way to Achensee on four Saturdays this and next month.

Lenggries/Achenkirch - Drivers on the way to Achensee will have to prepare for a type of block handling for the first time on Saturday (February 10th).

A traffic light on the Tyrolean side will regulate traffic on the Achenseestraße B 181 towards the south, said a spokesman for the Tyrolean state government.

Block clearance planned for three more Saturdays

The measure should also be tested on the following Saturday - February 17th - and on March 23rd and 30th.

This affects drivers who want to cross Tegernsee or Lenggries towards Austria.

The spokesman emphasized that the route via the Inntal motorway is longer, but usually free of traffic jams and therefore faster.

The spokesman explained that alternative traffic via the B 181, also to avoid the Austrian motorway toll in the Zillertal, always causes massive traffic problems on peak travel days in the winter season.

Around December 30th, progress was slow for hours.

Up to 16,500 vehicles were counted in one day.

Alternative traffic causes considerable stress for residents

This causes considerable stress for residents, from noise and fine dust to longer commutes to work and everyday life.

Emergency services would have difficulty getting through.

Last but not least, the traffic jams would also result in longer journey times and thus annoyance for guests with destinations in the region.

According to the spokesman, there will be signs at the motorway exit in Holzkirchen, Upper Bavaria, asking people to stay on the motorway and not to take the B 181.

Tyrol also wants to direct traffic and protect residents by banning travelers from leaving the motorway or certain federal roads on busy days.

Such restrictions will apply again on Saturday.
