The City Ombudsman's Office revealed that since
the beginning of last year
it had
warned the Buenos Aires Government about "irregularities" in the construction site
next to the condominium building that collapsed this Thursday in Caballito, causing two deaths.
In particular, the autonomous entity pointed out that the company in charge of the real estate project underway had presented an "
excavation report
" that "
differed
" in the papers of the work that was being carried out and for this reason it had
received a warning
.
The control body headed by María Rosa Muiños reported that "at the request of the neighbors of the collapsed building," it had requested "in four different instances that the protection measures for third parties, the structural integrity of both buildings, be corroborated" and that the act accordingly from the City Government.
"It is
worrying
that in the last inspection carried out in December of last year,
the construction company
was
warned
that it had to adjust the
excavation
report according to the way in which the work was being carried out, since it
differed from what was presented,"
the organization highlighted in a statement.
Ramón Acuña, 77, and his sister Nélida, 81,
died
this Thursday when the Pedro Goyena PH at 500, where they lived, collapsed.
Those
injured
by the collapse
were 14
, including four children and a blind man who was taken to Durand Hospital.
"Unfortunately, the control measures adopted by the GCBA have been insufficient to prevent this type of tragedies from being repeated, in a context of excessive growth of the real estate business in the City, where the supervision of the safety of the works does not seem to have the same pace as that of the construction industry," claimed the Ombudsman.
As reported by the City Government, the work was registered
with a start permit in August 2023
and was in the
excavation stage
.
The Government Control Agency
last inspected it on December 5
.
Neighbors, however, spoke of "complaints that were not heard."
