Patrick Lorentz, Estée Lauder make-up artist, guides us to ensure (very) long-lasting wear for our lipsticks. And avoid any transfer.

Since the announcement of their romance, Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce have been the subject of all attention in the United States.

Fans of the singer like those of American football are waiting for their slightest kiss.

The one who has just won four Grammys regularly displays a perfectly red-rimmed mouth.

And even when she throws herself around her lover's neck to kiss him, no trace remains on his face.

Enough to question social networks and the media: how can she leave such red kisses without any transfer?

Answer, and tips for everyone with Patrick Lorentz, make-up artist at Estée Lauder.

1 – Focus on the right shades

Lipstick fans know: it is almost mission impossible to put it to the test of kisses, or quite simply meals.

“The good news is that the pigments that “tattoo” the most are reds, particularly those that are a little bluish or purplish, cherry red or fuchsia.

But these are also colors that require more work when removing makeup,” explains Patrick Lorentz, make-up artist for the Estée Lauder brand.

2 – Prepare your lips

At the same time, there are tips for prolonging the intensity of the red as much as possible.

The makeup artist advises first of all to prepare your lips well.

“We can start with a scrub which I recommend doing the day before to prevent chapped lips from damaging the color.

A bit like when you want to repaint a wall: for the paint to adhere well, you have to wash it, but also sand it to prevent the paint from flaking.”

Then, Patrick Lorentz recommends hydrating them well with a balm or oil, at the start of your routine.

“The enemy of makeup is oil.

If you put lipstick immediately on top, it will skate and won't last.

So we apply our moisturizer and let it infuse while we make our complexion and take care of our eyes and eyebrows.

We then remove the excess with a tissue to be able to apply our rouge.

3- Powder

The expert, who has become a real influencer on social networks, tells us another tip which the singer would have made her secret as she confided to

Allure

magazine in 2009. “Just take a tissue and split it .

We apply a first layer of pigments then the fabric on the lips, and we powder on top like a sieve to fix the material.

We can then apply a second layer of pigments and start again.”

Patrick Lorentz also insists on the importance of using the thinnest layer of tissue possible to let the powder pass through.

But what about those who like to have a more satiny result?

“In this case, we apply a final coat of red without powdering to avoid any matt veil.

On the other hand, I would avoid a touch of gloss as a finishing touch.”

4 – Favor matte

The make-up artist also recommends turning to non-transferable lipsticks, those called “matte liquids”.

“There is no fatty substance so they last longer.

But on the other hand, they do not nourish the lips.

Daily application of this type of product can therefore lead to drying out.

We must not forget that the lips do not have sebaceous and sweat glands: they do not sweat, they do not produce sebum.

It is therefore the application of balms or oils which will nourish this area” adds the one who sees in these “matte liquids” the best option to avoid transfers.

Before adding: “We must, however, keep in mind that the matte does not reproduce the light.

If we want to have a very glamorous and well-curved mouth, this is not the finish that will give it to us.”

For those who want to plump up their lips, the makeup artist recommends balms with a volumizing effect, which are applied before applying lipstick.

How to properly remove your red makeup at the end of the day

“Here again we must remember that the worst enemy of lipstick is oil!”

recalls the Estée Lauder makeup artist.

He therefore recommends turning to makeup remover oils.

“You can also use the Advanced Night Repair cleansing balm which transforms into an oil then, when rinsed with water, turns into milk.

It’s perfect for overcoming waterproof mascaras and all those long-lasting lipsticks.”

5- Cheat with a lip liner

Among other tips, the makeup artist recommends using a lip contour pencil to choose in the shade closest to the lipstick and in a waterproof version.

“We can first define the outline and then fill the interior.

This will make a good base and if the pigments of the lipstick disappear, the lips will always remain made up with this waterproof material.

The pencil also allows you to create an optical illusion if you draw the line a little above as detailed by the makeup artist.

“You have to keep in mind that light creates volume while dark creates volume.

You can also use highlighters in the center of the lip.

And by taking a slightly darker pencil, you can also create a slight contour: you fill in the outer corners and leave more light in the center.

6- Use a fixing mist

Last tip: use a mist that sets makeup.

“We think about it more easily for the complexion but less for the lips and yet, it can really help to set the pigments” explains Patrick Lorentz who recommends not forgetting the mouth when spreading it on the face.

With all these tips, you no longer need to fear red during a one-on-one meeting.
