Elise, 7 years old, has been hospitalized in Lyon since last December for contamination by the E.Coli bacteria, present in cheese. His kidneys are dysfunctional and may require a transplant.

The 7-year-old girl from Saint-Étienne-des-Oullières was contaminated by the bacteria on December 23, after eating a piece of morbier with raw milk, according to information from BFMTV.

Complaining of stomach aches on December 24, his parents took him to the on-call medical center in the evening.

“They confirmed the diagnosis of gastro because they could not see anything else with what they had available and given the symptoms she had”

testifies her father, Yohan Buisson.

Two days later, and faced with the deterioration of Élise's condition, the possibility of gastroenteritis was ruled out, in favor of peritonitis linked to an attack of appendicitis.

It is ultimately the presence of the E.coli bacteria detected in their stools which establishes a definitive diagnosis.

Having convulsions, Elise is placed in an artificial coma and intubated.

His vital prognosis is in jeopardy.

A transplant is being considered

“We woke her up on December 31 because the tests were rather positive but she still has not recovered the functions of her kidneys.

The chances are more and more slim that she will get them back,”

explains her father.

The deterioration of his renal system led to consideration of a transplant.

The incident occurs two months after the government site Rappel Conso warned of the possible contamination of several cheeses by E.Coli.

The dangers of the bacteria had already been noted in 2022 during the Buitoni pizza affair, having killed two children.

The same year, 253 serious cases of contamination were reported by Santé Publique France.
